Introduction

Hello there! My name is Marissa and I'm a fairly normal 18-year-old girl who one year ago graduated from a small high school in a suburb mostly populated by cornstalks. Since then I've relocated my small-fish-self to a very large University pond surrounded by even more fields than my hometown. Instead of going home for the entire summer after my freshman year I decided to stay at school, take a summer class, and work for a research lab. Originally the summer was going to be fantastic, nearly carefree bonding time for me and my first sort-of-serious boyfriend. However due to many circumstances, and let's be honest, not all of them are entirely understood, he decided against that idea during finals week (Yes, finals week! Don't even get me started.). I apologize if this all seems too personal, but I just want you to get a solid idea of how the world is colored through Marissa-tinted glasses at the moment. So here I am now in my studio apartment attempting to get a grip on readjusting to single life, cooking every meal for myself, handling my first actual job, prepping for summer class, next semester, and whatever the rest of college has in store. What color are the lenses in those glasses, then? I'd say an opalescent shimmery shade. This is a wonderfully cheesy metaphor, but eh, life is short. Opals change color depending on the light and the angle you're looking at them from, right? See what I did there? My life is moving incredibly fast and I thought a blog would be a great place to jot down some of the more important things, i.e. food that I create or am inspired by and (hopefully) amusing tidbits about my life as an engineering student/undergraduate research assistant.
